So far, London Olympics wins gold medal for gaffes

(AP) ? An appearance by the hapless comic character Mr. Bean was one of the highlights of the London Olympics opening ceremony. Yet a series of Keystone Cops moments has games organizers hoping they don't keep up this slapstick routine in real life.

London police acknowledged Monday that last week they lost a set of keys to Wembley ? one of the most famous soccer stadiums in the world and an Olympic venue in London ? and had been forced to hastily change the stadium locks.

It was the latest unintentionally comic moment to beset the games and has raised fears of what else may be in store.

News of the lock debacle followed a diplomatic tiff with India, triggered when a woman who was not part of the country's athletic delegation marched right beside India's flag bearer at Friday's opening ceremony.

Olympic officials insisted there was no security risk from either incident. Games chief Sebastian Coe said the Indian team's interloper was an accredited cast member from the opening ceremony who "got slightly over-excited."

Police said the Wembley keys appeared to have been lost rather than stolen and "measures were taken immediately to secure all key areas of the venue."

Earlier Olympic glitches ranged from worrying to merely embarrassing.

Security arrangements were thrown into chaos weeks before the opening ceremony when private security contractor G4S acknowledged it would not be able to provide all the guards it had promised. Thousands of soldiers, sailors and air force personnel ? some just back from Afghanistan ? had to be drafted in to plug the Olympic security gaps.

Then last week, as the Olympic soccer competition kicked off, organizers mistakenly displayed the South Korean flag on a jumbo screen while introducing the North Korean women's team. There could hardly have been a worse mix-up ? the two countries are still technically at war.

Britons, at least, are quick to see the humor. Opticians Specsavers ran a full-page ad displaying the two completely different-looking Korean flags and suggesting that anyone who can't tell the difference should stop by for a checkup.

Then Welsh footballer Joe Allen was listed as English in the British team's official program, prompting a wave of mocking commentary across Twitter.

Over the weekend, television shots of so many empty seats at Olympic venues enraged many ordinary Britons, who had struggled for months to get tickets, many unsuccessfully.

Organizers are now scrambling to fill rows of empty seats allocated but not used by members of the "Olympic family" ? national federations, sponsors and the media. Among the remedies: 150 British soldiers were told to stop handling security duties for a few hours Sunday and go watch the Olympic qualifying for women's gymnastics.

"I was told to let the boys come in and enjoy the show," Staff Sgt. Marc Robson of the 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery told The Associated Press. "Look at them, they seem to be liking it just fine."

Ellis Cashmore, professor of culture, media and sport at Staffordshire University, said the sheer number of Olympic errors has had a numbing effect.

"It's almost as if we've become anesthetized to them," he said. "It's almost as if we're expecting another gaffe.

"If everything had gone smoothly up till now, (the missing keys) would be a catastrophe. Losing they keys to the stadium! If you lose your house keys, it's a major crisis."

The farcical moments started more than a year before the games, when the official Olympic countdown clock was unveiled in London's Trafalgar Square ? and promptly broke down.

On Friday, during a mass celebratory bell-ringing to mark the start of the games, Olympics Secretary Jeremy Hunt's bell went flying off its handle and narrowly avoided a bystander. No one was hurt, but the incident, captured by a TV camera, drew comparisons to Mr. Bean, the accident-prone Englishman created by comedian Rowan Atkinson.

It's fortunate that the British have knack for laughing at their mistakes. That talent for self-deprecation helps explain the popularity of London Mayor Boris Johnson ? a brainy but gaffe-prone politician once forced to apologized to the entire city of Liverpool after accusing its residents of "wallowing" in victimhood.

Putting a positive spin on things, Johnson listed Hunt's bell-ringing clanger as one of the reasons to be cheerful about the Olympics.

"Jeremy Hunt has introduced a new sport to the games, to go with the discus, shot-put, javelin," Johnson wrote in Monday's Daily Telegraph. "It is bell-whanging. ... The rules have yet to be codified ? there is still a dispute about whether you get extra points for hitting a spectator ? but you can be sure they will be codified in London."

In this new age of social media ? and with the eyes of the world on London ? more blunders are inevitable, Cashmore said.

"I think previous Olympics have been just as marred by security lapses, but now we are so acutely aware of everything that these things are magnified," he said. "We are looking at things microscopically now."

US hits out at Europe, Egypt over religious freedoms

The United States warned the world was sliding backwards on religious freedoms Monday, criticizing violence against Coptic Christians in Egypt and citing European laws banning Muslim veils.

As the State Department unveiled its first full report on religious freedoms since the start of the Arab Spring, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it was a "signal to the worst offenders" that the world was watching.

"New technologies have given repressive governments additional tools for cracking down on religious expression," Clinton told a US think-tank, adding that pressure was rising on some faith groups around the globe.

"When it comes to this human right -- this key feature of stable, secure, peaceful societies -- the world is sliding backward."

The 2011 International Religious Freedom Report noted that despite gestures by Egypt's interim military leaders towards greater inclusiveness, sectarian tensions and violence had increased.

It denounced "both the Egyptian government's failure to curb rising violence against Coptic Christians and its involvement in violent attacks."

Clinton, who visited Egypt earlier this month, said she had had "a very emotional, very personal conversation with Christians who are deeply anxious about what the future holds for them and their country."

She said Egypt's new leader, President Mohamed Morsi, who emerged from the Islamic Brotherhood to become the country's first democratically-elected president, had vowed in their talks "to be the president of all Egyptians."

But Christians were asking "will a government looking explicitly to greater reliance on Islamic principles stand up for non-Muslims and Muslims equally? Since this is the first time that Egypt has been in this situation.

"It's a fair question," Clinton said.

The report also signaled "a marked deterioration during 2011 in the government's respect for and protection of religious freedom in China" and it noted that religious freedom does not exist in any form in North Korea.

China and North Korea along with Myanmar are among eight countries designated by Clinton as being of particular concern for their failure to recognize religious rights.

They are accompanied by Eritrea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Uzbekistan.

The report also warned that European nations undergoing major demographic shifts have seen "growing xenophobia, anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim sentiment, and intolerance toward people considered 'the other.'"

It complains of a "rising number of European countries, including Belgium and France, whose laws restricting dress adversely affected Muslims and others."

Ambassador at large for religious freedom, Suzan Johnson Cook, accused some governments of limiting "the right to wear or not to wear religious attire."

"This decision should be a personal choice," she insisted to journalists when she presented the report at the State Department.

The report also documents "a global increase in anti-Semitism, manifested in Holocaust denial, glorification and relativism."

And it criticizes a law passed by the Hungarian parliament to regulate the registration of religious organizations.

"The law went into effect on January 1, 2012, reducing the number of recognized religious groups from over 300 to fewer than 32," it noted.

Belgium and France have outraged many Muslims with laws against full veils, such as the niqab worn by many women in Saudi Arabia or the Afghan burqa, which went into force last year and in some places are punishable by fines.

US President Barack Obama fiercely criticized European moves to ban the veil in a major speech to the Muslim world in Cairo in 2009.

But in Europe, where many voters feel large Muslim immigrant populations are not integrating well and that Islam poses a threat to women's rights, many see France and Belgium as leading the way on this issue.

The report also took aim at countries, such as Indonesia, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, using blasphemy laws to "restrict religious liberty, constrain the rights of religious minorities and limit freedom of expression."

Victim of alleged Nebraska hate crime speaks out for first time

By NBC News staff

The victim of an alleged hate crime in Nebraska has decided to make her name and face public for the first time since her attack, she says, to squash those skeptical that it ever happened.

?I?m not hiding from this anymore,? Charlie Rogers of Lincoln, Neb., told KETV in Omaha.

Rogers told police three masked men broke into her home early Sunday, bound her wrists and ankles with zip ties, beat her and carved anti-gay slurs into her arms and abdomen.

The men also allegedly spray-painted a derogatory term for lesbians inside the home and tried to set it on fire, in what police in Lincoln, Neb., are investigating as a hate crime. Rogers told police she was targeted because she?s gay.

Lincoln police so far have no suspects, Officer Katie Flood said, leading some to question whether Rogers made it all up.?Rogers says the doubters are making her a victim all over again.

?Being a victim in situation like this or a survivor and then having your integrity questioned, I guess, it feels very victimizing again,? Rogers said. ?It makes an already difficult situation more difficult because my world has been changed forever by these events.?

Rogers said she hasn?t spoken publicly about her attack because she doesn?t want to affect the police investigation, but she says she wants her own voice to be heard.

?I understand that people sort of have a hard time wrapping their heads around the things that have happened, as do I,? Rogers said. ?But I?m a person with feelings, with concerns. For people to think that this doesn?t happen here, it does. It did.?

Rogers was a standout basketball player at the University of Nebraska, and she says she?s an avid volunteer and a small-business owner.

Vigils in multiple Nebraska cities were organized in the days following her attack and more are planned, though Rogers says she won?t be attending them because she?s still in hiding.

?I could never thank them in a way that I feel adequately expresses how much it has meant to me that people are standing with me and people are standing for me,? Rogers said. ? There is fear, but there is resilience. There is forward.?

Google to offer KC ultra-fast Internet? | Advanced E-Commerce,E ...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) ? Google Inc. revealed Thursday what it will charge for its long-awaited, ultra-fast Internet service in Kansas City: $70 per month.

The service is intended as a showcase for what?s technically possible and as a testbed for the development of new ways to use the Internet. Bypassing the local cable and phone companies, Google has spent months and an unknown amount of money pulling its own optical fiber through the two-state Kansas City region.

After vetting many contenders, Google announced last year that the Kansas City metro area would be the first to get its ?Fiber for Communities? broadband service.

Some cities had used gimmicks to get the company?s attention. Topeka informally renamed itself ?Google, Kansas.? A group in Baltimore launched a website that used Google?s mapping service to plot the location of more than 1,000 residents and give their reasons for wanting the service. Hundreds of groups on Facebook implored Google to come to their cities.

The $70 monthly fee will pay for ?gigabit? Internet service, about 100 times faster than a basic cable modem. For another $50 per month, Google will provide cable-TV-like service over the fiber, too, and a tablet computer.

Kevin Lo, general manager of Google Access, said in a blog post that Google will also offer a slower Internet option, at a DSL-like 5 megabits per second, with no monthly fee to households that pay a $300 installation fee.

Google said it will only start hooking up households in neighborhoods where a sufficient number of people want service. Kansas City residents have six weeks to pre-register for service, after which Google will decide which areas have enough interest.

The $70 fee is more than what cable or phone companies charge for basic Internet service, but the service is also much faster. ?Gigabit? speeds, or 1,000 megabits per second, are generally unavailable from other companies. One exception is the city-owned electric utility in Chattanooga, Tenn., which has pulled its own fiber and sells gigabit service for $350 per month.

There are few ways for consumers to take advantage of gigabit speeds. For everyday activities such as Web surfing, email and video-watching, there will likely be no substantial difference. The higher speeds will help with video sharing and online backups.

Google is hoping that the network could help the development of other advanced applications that can take advantage of the high speeds. It?s also hoping to spur phone and cable companies into upgrading their own networks.

?Access speeds have simply not kept pace with the phenomenal increases in computing power and storage capacity that?s spurred innovation over the last decade,? Milo Medin, Google?s vice president of Access Services, said in a blog post.

However, it?s expensive to pull optical fiber compared with using existing phone and cable lines to provide Internet service. Verizon Communications Inc. is the only major U.S. telecommunications company to have connected homes directly to fiber. Wall Street analysts say that project, which has cost $23 billion, is not paying off.

Verizon has stopped adding new communities to its network, dubbed FiOS. It charges $70 per month for download speeds of 15 megabits per second, less than 2 percent the speed of Google?s gigabit.

The first results of a financial transition tax implementation ...

Author Paul Holmes

Are there four more annoying words in the English language than, ?I told you so?? During 2011 there appeared to be a mass movement, particularly amongst the UK celebrity culture, that attempted to attach itself to a ?cause c?l?bre? suddenly deemed popular and worthy; a financial transaction tax?

The first two rules in fighting for a club is to understand the mechanism and impact of what you?re fighting for, on those first two yardsticks the ?what do we want and we want it now? movement failed. Firstly the name given to the FTT in the mainstream media was the Tobin Tax, and secondly the antagonists failed to understand the full impact of introducing a FTT.

The Tobin Tax label couldn?t have been more inapplicable, in short (and I apologise if I?m preaching to the already converted on this) the Tobin Tax was originally introduced/proposed in order to ?smooth out? discrepancies in currency fluctuations, courtesy of Wiki here?s a snippet that explains the background behind the mechanism. In short it was never proposed to be a transaction tax, and how the FTT movement have got such a crucial issue so mixed up is baffling.

Tobin Tax

A Tobin tax, suggested by Nobel Laureate economist James Tobin, was originally defined as a tax on all spot conversions of one currency into another. The tax is intended to put a penalty on short-term financial round-trip excursions into another currency.

Tobin suggested his currency transaction tax in 1972 in his Janeway Lectures at Princeton, shortly after the Bretton Woods system of monetary management ended in 1971. Prior to 1971, one of the chief features of the Bretton Woods system was an obligation for each country to adopt a monetary policy that maintained the exchange rate of its currency within a fixed value, plus or minus one percent, in terms of gold.

Then, on August 15, 1971, United States President Richard Nixon announced that the United States dollar would no longer be convertible to gold, effectively ending the system. This action created the situation whereby the U.S. dollar became the sole backing of currencies and a reserve currency for the member states of the Bretton Woods system, leading the system to collapse in the face of increasing financial strain in that same year. In that context, Tobin suggested a new system for international currency stability, and proposed that such a system include an international charge on foreign-exchange transactions.

Who watches the Watchmen?

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? is a Latin phrase traditionally attributed to the Roman poet Juvenal from his Satires which is literally translated as ?Who will guard the guards themselves?? Also sometimes rendered as ?Who watches the watchmen??

The second issue the celebrity culture missed out was the tricky part of implementation. Here?s three more words that have proved to be a bug bear over recent years, ?high frequency trading?. How the uninitiated think that an FTT can be introduced into this arena is equally baffling and reveals their total ignorance of the mechanisms used on a daily basis in the modern world of trading. Now it?s fair to say that each trade could still be logged, even if measured in micro seconds there would still be an audit trail, but globally you?d need complete co-operation between fairly disparate, complex trading bodies in order to gather the information on ?normal FX trading? and that?s before we?d even begin to calculate the trades made through HFT on equities, commodities, futures, options?

There was an estimate put together with regards to the implementation of an FTT throughout Eurozone countries and the suggestion made for sobering reflection. The set up cost to oversee an FTT regime was put in the region of ?30 billion. The ongoing cost circa ?5 billion, ergo the cost of implementation of the FTT and the ongoing administration cost would put a dint in the ?profits? the tax would in theory collect. The tax would generate it?s own tax that would directly increase the cost of trading. A cost that many banks (with retail arms) would inevitably socialise.

The ECB report on Hungary?s FTT experiment.

We?ve posted a link to the full analysis by the ECB on the FTT that Hungary experimented with. In summary the prognosis was not good.

On 3 July 2012, the European Central Bank (ECB) received a request from the Hungarian Ministry for the National Economy for an opinion on a new draft law introducing a financial transaction tax (hereinafter the ?FTT Law?). On 5 July 2012 the ECB received a request from the Ministry for an opinion on a new amending proposal to the FTT Law. On 9 July 2012 the Parliament adopted the FTT Law with the changes introduced by the new amending proposal.

Summary of the ECB findings

The European Central Bank criticised Hungary?s new financial transaction tax stating that it impaired the independence of the country?s central bank, providing a new hurdle in Budapest?s loan talks with international lenders. The ECB?s criticism came hours after Hungary?s central bank kept interest rates steady, deciding against a rate cut as the escalating euro zone crisis poses risks to the forint, which has indirectly been undermined by a lack of confidence in the country.

Investors have concerns with regards to the government?s unorthodox policies and tax changes, including the financial transactions tax. The Hungarian government pushed the FTT through parliament in July in the hope that it would finance social tax cuts in 2013.

The ECB; ?The new FTT (financial transaction tax) law impairs the National Bank of Hungary?s functional and institutional independence.? The ECB said the tax could disrupt monetary policy transmission and could be seen as a way to finance the public sector from central bank money, thus violating European Union rules.

Budapest began talks with the International Monetary Fund and the EU last week after an eight-month delay, boosting investor hopes for a deal on a financing backstop which Hungary, with the highest debt in Central Europe, needs to cut its borrowing costs and avert a market blowout. But the ECB statement signalled a fresh conflict with Viktor Orban?s centre-right government, only weeks after Budapest ended a seventh-month dispute with lenders over another piece of legislation that jeopardised the central bank?s independence. Orban has said the financial transactions tax would remain in place even if lenders oppose it. It will be levied on commercial banks as well as on the central bank?s overnight facility and the two-week bills it sells to banks as part of its role in controlling money in circulation.

An IMF/EU mission, which arrived for preliminary talks to Budapest last week, ended its visit yesterday. The negotiations, even before the ECB?s statement on Tuesday, were expected to span several months.

Pre Foreclosures & High Rent Equal Profit For Investors

As drought conditions and blazing heat paralyze a huge swath of the nation, buy and hold real estate is heating up as the investing flavor of the day, helping real real estate investors able to tap into available cash to purchase properties on the cheap, and let waves of cold hard cash flow into their bank accounts.

In this month?s Home Stand, we?ll give you the inside story about which areas are the hottest buy and hold markets, the spots which are just now getting ready to heat up ? and why.

As if this weren?t enough, we?ll also throw in a golden nugget about this month?s coming press release, which will enable you to reap the rewards available in the marketplace today.

Buy and Hold Investing Hotter Than the Weather

In most cases, the hottest real estate markets won?t hit you in the head with a brick to get your attention. Buy and hold investing has taken off in many parts of the country, though, so if your head isn?t throbbing with the untapped potential, you haven?t been paying attention. So where are the hottest markets?

The Hottest Buy and Hold Markets

Reis, Inc. spends a ton of time digging into the national apartment market, and the data they?ve sifted through shows that average rents have topped $1,091 per month, which represents the highest rate since before the national real estate market fell headfirst into the abyss.

If you?re a buy and hold investor, you?re all too well aware that the amount you ask for rent and the amount you actually receive are sometimes two completely different figures. By the time investors shave off a few bucks for marketing incentives (free rent, deferred/reduced deposits/and other one-time perks), effective average rent is still well over $1,000 monthly ? $1,041.

New York and San Francisco apartment housing markets have been red hot for some time, and that isn?t likely to change anytime soon. Somewhat surprisingly, nearly all major apartment markets in the U.S. are seeing robust leasing activity and rising rents. For buy and hold real estate investors, this is good news! Read on for some of the reasons why.

Up and Coming Buy and Hold Opportunities

One major area of the country hasn?t yet seen its local apartment market heat up to the extent that it has in other parts of the country. Not a complete surprise, Florida continues to have plenty of available vacancies, with the 7 worst vacancy rates in the nation occupied by Florida cities:

Fort Myers 37 percent vacancy

Sarasota/Bradenton 27.9 percent

Lakeland ? 21.4 percent

Orlando ? 20.7 percent

South Florida (Miami-Naples areas) ? 19.5 percent

Palm Bay ? 17.8 percent

Tampa ? 17.6 percent

?

I know we?ve been beating the ?Florida-real-estate-market-is-improving-a-little-bit-at-a-time drum for some time, but it?s really true.? Foreign investment activity is surging, and tourism (a key driver of Florida economic activity) is strong. So Florida has to be our top pick as the area to watch for buy and hold investing opportunities!

Reasons for the Buy and Hold Heat Wave

Investors who have been through a few hot and cold market cycles are well aware that buy and hold real estate investing goes through phases. This one is a little different, though, because the strengthening rental market is being driven by high foreclosure activity. Typically a weak economy will somewhat restrict demand for rentals, but in this case, that hasn?t happened.

The reason?

As homeowners are forced from their homes as the foreclosure process plays out, they have to go somewhere. Increasingly, that ?somewhere? has been into apartments as available single family home rentals dry up. Once the economy picks up steam, tourist hotspots (Florida, Arizona, Nevada) should see apartment demand pick up, reducing vacancy rates.

And this spells even higher rents.

Your Buy and Hold Forecast: Cool Profits

In order to make the most of buy and hold opportunities (no matter where you choose to invest), it?s crucial that you crunch your numbers to ensure that your investment will net positive cash flow. Then, even if the market drops (or your investment) temporarily loses value, you?ll still be able to count on a monthly infusion of cash.

You should also keep your eyes on local market conditions to make sure you maximize every opportunity to increase cash flow with increased rents. Higher demand = higher rents. And we all know that larger profit margins create lasting wealth for buy and hold real estate investors!

Press Release Coming!

As is a monthly Home Stand tradition, keep your eyes open for the latest Default Research press release. Each month, we profile a different area, and give hard numbers that conclusively show whether a market is improving, weakening or holding steady. This month is no different. The questions is: Which market will we profile? And will you be ready to take the information we give you to make you a better, more informed buy and hold investor? Stay tuned to find out!

Here?s a hint: July?s press release will have you wanting to ?motor? towards this iconic American city so you can ?sing? the praises of buy and hold investing opportunities!

$750,000 award will fund research to find renewable, efficient hydrogen biofuel

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- An Indiana University biologist investigating how microbes might interact to better produce biofuels from renewable resources has received a $750,000 U.S. Department of Energy Early Career Research Program award, the agency's most prestigious award for early-career, tenure-track teachers and scholars.

James "Jake" McKinlay, an assistant professor in the IU College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Biology, received the five-year funding award from the Department of Energy's Office of Biological and Environmental Research. His proposal to explore how two microbial species might work better together than alone in producing hydrogen gas biofuel was one of 68 funded from 850 submitted.

Numerous microbes can convert renewable resources into products such as biofuels, and to date most efforts have focused on engineering single species that can perform all the necessary tasks needed to produce biofuels, McKinlay said.

"Coordinating all these tasks in a single microbe can be challenging and can lead to undesired traits like the inefficient use of the food source," he said. "But in nature, diverse microbes often work together to use food sources like plant-derived lignin and cellulose that resist degradation. The idea here is to create a similar cooperative relationship in the lab where each microbe supplies the other with a nutrient required for survival."

By creating a co-culture -- a mixture of two microbial species -- McKinlay hopes to decipher how metabolisms of the two microbes interact, how they might evolve together to improve nutrient transfer, and how they might be optimized to create a tailor-made mixture for the economical production of hydrogen gas and other biofuels from renewable resources. Currently, over 90 percent of the hydrogen gas used by society is derived from fossil fuels, and while numerous microbes convert renewable resources into hydrogen gas, none are currently competitive against the existing industries.

"We're taking a lesson from nature that multiple microbial species help each other to thrive on food sources such as plant residues that those same species could not use if on their own," he said. "We already know that mixtures of specialized microbes can sometimes outperform a single engineered strain for producing chemicals of value to society."

The idea is to develop a co-culture of a photosynthetic bacteria and a fermentative microbe that uses sugar and energy from sunlight to produce hydrogen gas. The idea was first attempted by other researchers about 30 years ago, but obtaining a stable relationship between the two species has persisted as a major obstacle. McKinlay has addressed this obstacle, imposing a strategy that ensures that the two microbes can maintain a long-term cooperative relationship. This approach paves the way for experiments that could not otherwise be done and will ideally lead to a road-map for devising strategies to enhance biofuel production.

Before coming to IU in 2011, McKinlay most recently was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington. He earned a Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 2006 and earlier this year was one of two junior faculty members from IU to receive a Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities, a consortium of universities in strategic partnerships with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Report: Colorado shooting suspect sent plans notebook to psychiatrist

AURORA, Colo. (Reuters) - The man accused of Friday's movie theater massacre in Colorado mailed a notebook "full of details about how he was going to kill people" to a University of Colorado psychiatrist before the attack, FoxNews.com reported on Wednesday.

The package allegedly from the suspected shooter, 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes, remained unopened in a mailroom for as long as a week before its discovery Monday, FoxNews.com reported, citing a law enforcement source.

Reuters could not immediately verify the report but was seeking to do so. Messages left with police in Aurora and other law enforcement officials involved in the case were not immediately returned.

The FoxNews.com report said Police and FBI agents were called to the University of Colorado Anschutz medical campus in Aurora on Monday morning after the psychiatrist, who is also a professor at the school, reported receiving a package believed to be from the suspect.

Although that package turned out to be from someone else and harmless, a search of the Campus Services' mailroom turned up another package sent to the psychiatrist with Holmes' name in the return address, the source told FoxNews.com.

After obtaining a search warrant, police took the package away and discovered its contents.

FoxNews.com quoted its source saying: "Inside the package was a notebook full of details about how he was going to kill people. There were drawings of what he was going to do in it - drawings and illustrations of the massacre."

Police say Holmes, wearing body armor, a gas mask and toting three firearms, opened fire on a crowded midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in the Denver suburb of Aurora, killing 12 people and wounding 58 others.

Holmes, who was arrested immediately after the attack outside the theater, made his first appearance in court on Monday. Authorities plan to formally charge him on July 30. (Reporting by Dan Burns; Editing by Vicki Allen)
