St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay visited Concordia Publishing House? this morning to present a proclamation to its 200 employees, who are celebrating the not-for-profit's receipt of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
Concordia, the publishing arm of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, was announced as a Baldrige winner in November. The Baldrige crystal trophy, valued at more than $20,000, was unveiled at the organization's location at 3558 S. Jefferson Ave. in St. Louis, where the business has operated for more than 140 years.
The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award was created by Congress in 1987 in order to stimulate American companies to improve quality and productivity.
Concordia, led by President and CEO Bruce Kintz, is the fifth organization in St. Louis to win the Baldrige Award. Past winners were SSM Health Care, Nestle Purina, Boeing and Wainwright Industries.
Concordia Publishing House offers more than 8,000 products for Christian congregations, schools and residents.
