First Half Surges Redmen Soccer Past Visiting Wildcats - Tewksbury ...

For a team battling for playoff positioning, a close victory was critical for the Tewksbury High girls soccer team. The fact that it came against rival Wilmington was just an added bonus.

The Redmen were jolted to a 2-1 halftime lead thanks to a pair of tallies from Nicole Chaet on Saturday. Though Wilmington dictated the tempo of the second half and dominated possessions, it was Tewksbury that hung on for the victory by the same score.

Following the win, the locals improved to 4-6-2 on the campaign. That record includes a 3-5-2 mark in league play, and the Redmen will spend the final two weeks of the regular season trying to seal a postseason berth.

?That is a really good win for us,? said head coach Jeffrey Keefe. ?We?ve been working hard through a tough part of our schedule the last couple weeks and we?ve had some really close games, games we felt like we played good enough to win. Today we finished it.?

Keefe said he was impressed by his teams defensive effort on Saturday when the backfield was put under severe pressure for an extended period of time.

?We have some great athletes back there, but it works best when we?re playing as a unit,? said Keefe. ?The chemistry and communication has definitely been at a high level. We like the way our defense has been working, even though we?ve had to work through some injuries.?
